Please Help Us Say Thank You

As you may know, President Wayne H. Ross retired in January 2002 after 23 years of dedicated service to Southern Maine Community College. In appreciation of President and Mrs. Ross's contributions, we've established an advancement fund in their name. The Ross Technology Advancement Fund is the legacy Wayne and Betsy have always dreamed of building for their beloved college-one with the power to make our instituition stronger and more effective than ever.

Simply put, the Ross Fund represents an opportunity for each of us-College alumni, present and former faculty and staff, community leaders and business partners, students, and friends-to say thank you, tangibly and enduringly , to those whose caring and leadership have enriched our lives.

We invite you to join us as we honor the Rosses by realizing their dream.

President Wayne H. Ross
Leader, Champion, Friend

Since 1979, Wayne Ross's unstinting devotion has lifted Southern Maine Community College to prominence, strengthened Maine business, and literally transformed the lives of thousands of students.

The College has flourished in President Ross's care, growing from a 60-acre campus with 30 buildings and a full-time enrollment of approximately 800, to an 80-acre, 42-building campus serving some 2,500 full-time learners. The college's annual budget has increased from $4.5 million to $20 million. And the number of career-oriented educational programs offered on campus has nearly tripled to 34, including a revolutionary new Liberal Studies program designed for full transferability within the University of Maine system.

As friends of the College, as citizens of Maine, we could not have asked for finer leadership.

The Ross Technology Advancement Fund

Thanks in part to the achievements of Wayne and Betsy Ross, Southern Maine Community College stands at the threshold of a dynamic future. Your contribution to the Ross Technology Advancement Fund will help provide the financial strength needed to sharpen the College's competitive edge and thus fulfill the Rosses' dream.

Specifically, the fund will be used to support:

  • Distance-learning technology
  • Diagnostic equipment and tools for the Health Sciences
  • Upgraded equipment and facilities for the Department of Culinary Arts
  • Equipment and machinery for Construction, Automotive, and Machine Tooling Technologies
  • Labratory facilities for Earth Sciences
  • Upgrades in Communications Technology

As our new Technology Center becomes a reality, the fund will be used to furnish classrooms with the equipment and tools needed to teach tomorrow's career skills. Contributions may be restricted to fund faculty development oppurtunties focused on teaching cutting-edge technologies. Ultimately, the Ross Technology Advancement Fund will help secure the future of Southern Maine Community College as it continues to provide Maine's best value in higher education.
