Borrowing Books

All SMCC students with a current student I.D. may borrow books. SMCC faculty and staff have borrowing privileges as well. Students who attend Maine College of Art, St. Joseph’s College, UNE and USM may borrow books by presenting a current GPACU card. Books circulate for three weeks and may be renewed once.

Overdue Notices

The library will, as a courtesy, send three overdue notices via the inter-campus mail or email. Borrowers are responsible for returning material to the library by the due date whether or not a notice was received. When the library is closed books may be deposited in the book drop that is located to the right of the library entrance.

Late Fees

Fines are assessed at 25 cents per day per book. All fines must be cleared before additional materials are borrowed. Books borrowed through interlibrary loan are subject to the borrowing policies of the lending library and those fines are assessed accordingly.

Lost or Damaged Items

Non-returned items are billed for the cost of the item plus a $20.00 processing fee. All library bills are referred to the Bursar’s Office for collection. If you pay for lost library material and then find it, you will be issued a credit minus any late fees. The library considers damages to include water damage, torn or missing pages, ink and highlighting. You will be billed for the replacement cost of any material that the library determines must be withdrawn from the collection.
