Program Overview

The Lodging and Restaurant Management program responds to the developing needs of the Maine hospitality and tourist industry. This program produces graduates qualified for introductory supervisory and management positions in the lodging and restaurant industry.

SMCC is proud to operate the Peter A. McKernan Hospitality Center where students do their required internship. This stunning oceanside conference center houses a 100 seat restaurant, overnight accommodations for 22, a full front desk and numerous conference rooms. The relaxing atmosphere coupled with friendly service by students-in-training, makes the Center an ideal choice for functions, training workshops and seminars, and private parties - birthday, anniversary, retirement, reunion, and wedding.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, graduates will be able to:

  1. Understand and deliver good customer service.
  2. Effectively communicate with customers and fellow employees.
  3. Recognize and apply interpersonal skills needed in hospitality management.
  4. Implement problem-solving techniques as they relate to day to day operations.
  5. Understand the complexities of operating a successful hospitality operation.

Continuing Your Education

Graduates of the Hotel, Motel and Restaurant Management program who wish to pursue a Baccalaureate Degree in Business Administration may take advantage of articulation agreements SMCC has with both Husson and Thomas College. This allows them to enter with junior status.
