Athletics Update (11/24/03)

Men's Basketball
The men's basketball team defeated Unity College on the road Sunday for a 76-62 victory. Leading scorers for SMCC include Chad Sturgis (16 points), Steven Patrick (11 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists), Ryan Buzulchuck (11 points) and Jeremy Bennett (10 points). The men's team now stands at 3-2 and play host to Mass Bay Community College on Tuesday at 8pm!

Women's Basketball
The women's team lost to Unity College Sunday 52-43. The women's team now stands at 1-1 and will play host to Mass Bay Community College on Tuesday at 6pm.

SMCC athletics play host to the Thanksgiving Holiday Classic boys basketball tournament. Area teams including South Portland, Biddeford, Falmouth, and many more will be playing during the event held on Friday and Saturday. This is going to be a great event. Come check out some early season high school action.

Athletics Update (11/05/03)

Men's Basketball
The SMCC men's basketball team opened the season with hosting the annual CAN-Am tournament. The team went 1-1 on the weekend as the defeated Univ. of New Brunswick St. John on Saturday 60-54 in front of a good crowd. Sunday the team lost to St. Thomas Univ. 76-48. SMCC travels to Notre Dame Prep on Wed. Nov. 12 then opens league play with a game at Hesser College on Friday Nov. 15.

Men's Soccer
Congratulations goes out to Andreas Pederson and Patrick Shaw as they were named to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) All-American Team. Well done guys!

Athletics Update (10/29/03)

Men's Soccer Claim Yankee Title
The SMCC soccer team traveled to Unity college host of the Yankee Small College Conference finals. SMCC played NHTI in the semi-finals and won 2-1 in overtime. The following day SMCC played through overtime and on the 7th round of penalty kicks, Josh Peters put in the game winning kick to give SMCC a 2-1 win and their first Yankee title.

Athletics Update (10/15/03)

Golf Update:
Congratulations to the SMCC Golf Team as they are the 2003 MSCC Champions. The golf team played in Bangor on Tuesday and shot a team overall score of 343 to win the title over NMCC and EMCC. SMCC individual scores include Andrew Trembley 80 (first place overall), ,Joey Bissonette 83, Roy Rice and Don Robinson both shot 90.

Soccer Update:
Men's Soccer (9-3 overall) lost to NHTI on Saturday in the NNESCC finals. SMCC plays on Saturday Oct. 18th for the MSCC title then play in the Yankee Conference final four on Oct. 25 and 26.

Athletics Update (10-6-03) - Busy weekend for SMCC Athletics.

Golf Update:
First team win of the season! The SMCC Golfers placed first at the Maine Maritime Invitational. SMCC finished the day with a 359, MMA 362, EMCC 386. SMCC was lead by Joey Bissonette with a round of 82. Andrew Tremblay came in with a 89. The team now stands at 1-2 overall.

Men's Soccer:
Men's Soccer is on a roll. SMCC swept this weekend by beating Unity College 3-2 on Friday and EMCC 3-1 on Sunday. The soccer team now stands at 8-2 and have clinched the #2 seed on the NNESCC play-offs this Thursday. The soccer team is still in the running for a USCAA National bid. Good luck guys!

Women's Softball:
The women's softball team withstood the rain on Saturday to complete the first game of the double header. SMCC dropped the game to NHTI 10-2. The team now awaits to see the final results to determine if they qualify for NNESCC play-offs on Thursday.

Athletics Update 9/29/03

Men’s Soccer - Overall Record 5-2
Latest News: Men’s Soccer took to victory’s over the weekend with a 1-0 win over Vermont Tech and a 14-1 game against NMCC. Men’s Soccer looks to continue to build up their record with three games (2 home, 1 away) over the next week.

Men’s Baseball - Overall Record 2-9
Baseball had a rain out over the weekend against NH Tech in Laconia. Three games to go before NNESCC playoffs and the SMCC team is still in the play-off hunt. Big games this week against CMCC and Mass Bay CC will determine the teams play-off hopes.

Women’s Softball Overall Record 0-2
The softball team has been hit by bad luck from mother nature and have only played 2 games thus far. The team has two double headers over the weekend against Hesser College at New Hampshire Technical Institute. Look for the girls to rally this weekend in the NNESCC league play.

Golf Overall Record 0-2
The Golf team played in the Maine State Intercollegiate Championships and finished 12th out of 14 schools competing. Highest score for SMCC was put in by Andrew Tremblay who shot a 83. The team now travels to EMCC in Bangor for a MSCC match.
